Default More Speculation on a White iPod Touch

"We’ve been rambling on about white iPod touches for awhile now. Back in June we postulated that Apple would create a white iPod touch after successive launches of white iPhone and iPad and launched a survey (over 80% of you wanted that guy above)."

As we've seen with demand for a white iPhone, potential buyers are clamoring for a white iPod Touch. Several sources have written that it's on its way, and opine that the only changes will be color, an oleophobic coating on the display, and a better ambient light sensor. Apparently users hoping for a better camera are going to be disappointed. Wouldn't it make sense to build only one device (okay, with two colors) that is an iPod and an iPhone, with the ability to "turn on/off" phone features? Is there a significant cost bump adding 3G / 4G phone features? Just wondering.

I don't care about white...what I want is an iPod Touch with a 4.5" or 5" screen. Something that's more appropriate for gaming/entertainment.

I expect there is a cost bump in the testing and certification involved in building a phone. Beyond that there is the battery hit for the cell radio. You might imagine that it would just make the iPod version last longer, but If you are suggesting one model, your iPod would need to be as heavy as your iPhone, since they would be the same minus a radio and an antenna. Hefted the two lately? The iPhone isn't heavy by phone standards, but the touch is lighter, 3.56 ounces (101 grams) to 4.8 ounces (137 grams), and thinner, 0.28 inch (7.2 mm) to 0.37 inch (9.3 mm). Not sure those who want just a PMP would give that up. Actually they already build what you want. It's an iPhone with the cell turned off. I'm actually running one of those
