Backblaze Locates Stolen Computer And Inadvertently Finds $1 Million In Counterfeit Bills
"It isn't often that you hear about a stolen laptop being returned to its rightful owner - but still, that's not really news. Toss in a police raid in Argentina and the recovery of about a $1 million in counterfeit U.S. bills - now you have a story." It seems most stories about online services these days are about how hackers have cracked into their servers and are publishing user information to the public. So, it's pretty heartening when a story like this comes to light. An Argentinian user of Backblaze, an online backup service with ability to IP locate systems, had his laptop stolen. Once the thief turned the stolen laptop on, the owner was able to get a fix on his laptop's current location via the Backblaze service. The owner than gave the information to the authorities. When the authorities raided the house, they found the stolen laptop and approximately $1 million dollars in counterfeit bills.
