Apple Hits Number 2 in US for Smartphone Makers
"According to comScore (http://www.comscore.com), a "group that measures the digital world," 74.6 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in April 2011, up 13% from the three-month period ending in January 2011." This puts Apple in the number two spot for smartphone makers in the US behind Samsung, who had 24.5% of the subscribers. Google Android is still the top operating system, however, with 36.4% of US smartphone subscribers. This is up 5.2% from the previous comScore that ended in January of 2011. Apple is also number two in the operating system rankings with 26% of the market. RIM comes in third with 25.7%, not far behind Apple. The top three are followed up by Microsoft at 6.7% and Palm with 2.6%.
