At CES, Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer announced that in addition to the previously announced addition of copy and paste, the upcoming update would improve loading times for apps. This is great news as this was one of the many small complaints that reviewers had when Windows Phone was launched. The change will work best for those apps that load lots of graphical assets (i.e. games). The best part is that programmers have zero to do to take advantage of the update. The waiting period for the first update continues.
It's great to see them improving the load time of some games - I've been rather dismayed at how slow some apps are to load.
So, a few weeks ago, I did a brief comparison in app launch times between iOS and WP7. My iPhone 4 loaded Bejeweled 2 six times in the time that it took my Mozart to load Bejeweled LIVE just once. That's quite the difference.
Any improvements that Microsoft makes here is certainly welcome.

Yeah, it's really puzzling why/how app load times can be so awful with a 1 Ghz CPU. The Zune HD is similarly slow though...the explanation there is that when a game is loaded, the XNA run time is loaded at that time, THEN the app loads. I wonder if Microsoft is doing something similar on Windows Phone 7? Whatever they're doing, they need to do better, that's for sure.
