Google TV Is Not Quite Dead Yet
"The New York Times reported Sunday that LG, Toshiba and Sharp are postponing the official unveiling of Google TV devices at CES. The trade show was supposed to be a big coming-out party for Google TV, but the company changed its mind at the last minute due to the lackluster reception of devices already running the operating system." There definitely seems to be more competition for your living room eyeballs, but so far, there does not appear to be a clear winner. Apple TV, Boxee Box, Roku, TiVo, NetFlix and a dozen more companies are all vying for your attention, not to mention cable and satellite TV companies. Each has their own spin and take, and so far, Google TV does not appear to have had much success with its own product. Google has had its share of failures (Wave everybody!) but the living room is an important area to target, despite the rush towards mobile devices and location specific services. A lot of us still enjoy watching TV, or at least, having the TV on while we do stuff online. This is probably why Google will continue to invest more effort into Google TV, and like Android, after a few revisions, it might have something that manufacturers will be proud to display. It is just too an important market to give up.
