Apple Institutes Rules to Foil Scalpers
"Apple has been forced to change the way it sells iPhones at its four Apple Stores in China in order to deal with a problem many other companies could only dream of having: Scalpers. According to two Chinese language reports (MacSir, Fawan), scalpers (and even "gangs" of scalpers) have been buying up stock in the Apple Stores in China and reselling them at a profit outside of those same stores." After spending a few weeks in mainland China, and being pestered endlessly everywhere to buy knock-offs of almost any imaginable product, to see the vendors (and scalpers) dealing with "real" products is amusing. Now, we only have to wonder whether those iPhones at the Silk Market in Beijing really *are* iPhones ...
