Thanks Lee,
I went out and got a Belkin Easy share USB cable. It was easy from there.
Windows Easy Transfer kicked in and I just transferred my data from one laptop to another.
It probably wouldn't be good for adhoc file sharing but for wholesale transfer it was pretty easy.
I came across several articles saying that a standard Ethernet cable would do the trick but I never got a chance to try.
