Underwhelmed
Thanks for the great write-up and pictures.
First let me say I could care less about Social, Marketplace, Channels, and Friends on the Zune. I do like Podcasts so I hope they did not break it. All I want is to listen to my music which I transfer from CD's or Amazon downloads. No DRM crap. I also want to store some pictures and an occassional music video or family video. I'm a Recording Enginneer/Producer so audio to me is paramount.
As for version 3.0...I have little use for it and do not plan on updating. Even the audiobook feature is useless. I get my books through Netlibrary, which it seems, they do not support. Netlibrary is free, all you need is a library card.
I've got to say that when I first bought my Zune, I expected EQ. Here we are...version 3.0, still no EQ, no OGG/Flac. My $25 Sansa Clip has EQ and voice recording. Go figure.
My next player will not be a Zune unless something drastic happens to the Zune design philosophy. There are too many other audio friendly players out there to not consider something else....and I'm not talking about IPOD which I believe is a far worse choice than Zune.

Update: I just updated the Sansa Clip firmware...and guess what? It now has menu options for all Audiobooks and Podcasts. It remembers the bookmarks for all of files placed in these categories. It will also play Audiobooks/Podcasts at 3 speeds; normal, fast,and slow. And it displays "Chapters" in Audiobooks that have that information.
