I wonder this too. Technically PCS Vision is supposed to blow it away but I've noticed lackluster speeds on my notebook. It doesn't seem to scale well I guess.
So, although GRPS is supposed to be slower, I would be curious to hear so real life numbers.

I can't give you anecdotal data on Vision, but I can give you data on the other 1xRTT network (Verizon's Express Network)--
For what it's worth, a number of people in my research group were in Baltimore for a conference. While I was puttering along at about 30kbps, my friend was downloading stuff at around ~ 128kbps at peak times. Seriously. We saw something like 9-10KB/sec in IE.
So the tech is certainly capable... of course, this was Baltimore and not NYC or LA. My friend has repeatedly pointed out that the number of bars, receptionwise, does seem to make a difference as to how fast it goes (we were in a hotel in downtown Baltimore with basically 5 bars all the time).
