Is your old Palm still working after being a coaster for 3 years? More importantly, are you in the market for a new iPAQ? If you answered YES to any of these questions, HP has got a deal for you! If you purchase a 194x or 221x (1940 or 2210 for our Canadian friends) between March 28th and July 10th, HP will give you the fair market value OR $50 for your old PDA, whichever is more. <br /><br />I have a Casio E-10, a Casio E-125, and a slightly used 1945. HP offered me $50 for each of them. Playing with the custom quote tool revealed that HP is willing to pay $50 for a Palm IIIc, $50 for most Clie models, and $100 for an Axim X5 Advanced. Pretty much any PDA you can think of is listed in their system, so chances are good that you'll be able to sell them what you've got. <br /><br />Assuming you've filled out the paperwork correctly, a check will be mailed to you within 4 to 6 weeks. They'll even pay for shipping, but alas, you'll have to pay for the box. If you're thinking about getting a new 194x or 221x, this is a great way to defray the cost. So how about it - do you have an old PDA lying around that you'd be willing to part with?

I've been looking to get rid of my generously used Palm m505. Are there any other places that will pay for these things, or will I be better off to sell it on ebay?

If you don't want to buy a new one, I'd sell it on ebay.

I have a 1910 that I'm thinking of putting up on ebay.

I'd consider this when the 6xxx series comes out, if they still offer that. :|

You should know better by now - us europeans are always ****ed when it comes to rebates or great deals. We pay twice as much and don't get even a single good deal...

I don't think this is as good a deal as it seems.

HP must have been hitting the cherry flavored crack pipe pretty hard when they were coming up with the trade-in values.

When I checked the value of an old 740 I have, they offered me $50. The 740's are still available in some of the office supply stores in my area for around $350 (yes, I know that's high for this unit, now). But, you can also still find them on E-Bay for $175 and up.

I'll pass!

Anybody know if it has to be a working PDA. I've got a 3670 with a broken screen to trade in.

In the reallity is not HP the one paying or buying your PPC, its another company (I don't remember the name) and it's the same company working in the Trade in program of Toshiba. It was very sad when just 6 month after I bought the e740 Toshiba released the e750 which had fixed all the problems that were in the e740 and when I spoke to Toshiba that was the only solution they could find for me: the trade in program, but what trade is that when they offered for my 6 month old e740 75 dollars, and the funny thing is that same day I went and checked what they would offer me if was willing to trade the new e750 and they offered me 50 dollars!

The trade in program of that company is only good if you have some of those old but very old PPCs because even now if you go to ebay you will find people buying the Casio e100 for 100 and even 150 dollars.

If you really want a very good trade in program just use eBay, that's the best trade in program you can find and believe me, I know what I'm talking about because I have used it in all my PPCs. The last trade in was the e740, I sold it for $289 and got my h2215 right there in ebay for $325. That's a good trade in program!

I think it's probably a good deal for older units. I doubt that I could get $50 for my E-10 anywhere else. If I was planning on upgrading my wife from her 1945 to a 2215, I'd probably trade in my E-10 and (poor quality) E-125 and eBay the 1945. That's a good deal in my opinion. :)

It might be worth considering if they offered this for the 4xxx series.

My next PDA will at least have WiFi and may be a phone as well. No question about it.

So close, yet so far away.

Wish I would have known that before I made my last purchase. I received a free palm zire 21 with a dell purchase I had just made. (which I will never use the zire probably anyway) Would have made a good trade. hahaha

So Dell, a company that makes pocket pc's, is giving away PALM products to new buyers? or did you buy this from a store that tacked on the palm. If its dell, it might just be genious: Give them crap, hope they upgrad to an Axim.

Dell has actually sold Palms for a long time (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0156898&category_id=4327), they just never rebranded them.

I have an old HPC, a C140 that they would offer $50 for (ironically, with a killer Office Depot closeout deal and a mail-in rebate, I paid $50 for it new...not a bad trade!) I don't see any offerings for a Philips, i.e. for my old Nino.

So has anyone seen an offer on that site for anything other than $50? I was offered $50 for an older PDA my wife is using, but after reading this thread I got to wondering. Just for kicks, I offered to trade in my iPaq 2215 (chose excellent condition) to buy a new iPaq 2215 and the offer was still $50. If they think the new one is worth $400, then you'd think the used one would be worth more then $50. I'm starting to think that's just the offer they make for anything.

At this point, though, I wouldn't consider any of those devices unless they dropped the price at the other end as well. With all the new devices coming out with VGA resolution, why pay full (or nearly full) price for these soon-to-be-obsolete PPCs.

The only way I see this as being benificial to anyone at all is for those who might see the rebate on some flyer instore. i don't know about the rest of you guys, but I NEVER order anything directly from the manufacturer or even use Retail stores (except in price matching online sources). I just find the best price online, or use my regular PC parts supplier www.newegg.com. Granted they don't have a wowing selection of PPC's, but that is where I got my 3955 from and at a better price than most any other retailer. And defionately saved more than $50 from the retail list price. I have never done any "trade-in" program because honestly, you get screwed in the end for being lazy and not trying to sell something on your own. Hell, my last car I sold independantly and got about $800 more than the dealer would have given me for trade in. Eh well, maby someone will find this useful. But like the rest of you, I am not purchasing another PPC until I get VGA and WiFi built-in.

Yup:

 In addition, the Geek.com article I linked as the source mentions the following:

"I tested it out with an excellent condition Jornada 728 (one of the more expensive Handheld PCs) and came up with a $250 trade-in value".

Reading the FAQ section, it appears you can buy from any re-seller, not just from HP directly. Am I reading it incorrectly?

Now let me see. If I trade in my perfectly good 3835 I'll get $50 towards a brand new 2215. On the other hand an HP refurbed 2215 with a one year warranty, sold on the HP website is $288.
I wonder which one is a better deal.....

Well, just for fun I put my Dell Axim X5 Basic and it came up with a $100 price, I also put my old Palm 1000 and I got a $50 price.

However, each time I tried something new I had to select which new device i wanted, like the 2215 or 1945 etc. I believe they only accept one trade in per new device, so I couldn't trade in 6 $50 devices, I couldn't get the 2215 for free.

Ok, let me clear things up a bit. I just called HP, and was informed that this promotion is a 1 for 1 offer. Meaning one (1) old PDA for one (1) new iPAQ. Unfortunately, this is anything but clear if you read the fine print or use their Custom Quote tool.

Here is a page with detailed information (http://www.hp.com/united-states/tradein/promo/ipaq/index.html), and here are the eligibility rules (http://www.hp.com/united-states/tradein/promo/ipaq/eligibility.html).

According to HP, "Actual rebate will vary according to the old PDA's fair market value (FMV) as estimated by HP Trade-In. If FMV &lt; $50, you receive $50; If FMV >$50, you receive FMV. This assumes a product in good working condition and working order. "

So as long as the old device is working and in fairly good shape, you'll get either $50, or the fair market value, whichever is greater.

What about refurbished products? Would this work if I bought, say, a refurbished 2210 out of the Pricegrabber list?

Nope. Refurbished units and items bought via auctions are specifically excluded.

I think basicallly HP is trying to get rid of non-wifi models on hand. I don't see any 4xxx or any wifi enabled as rebatable model.

Oh, I think my Cassiopeia EM-500 is worth more than $50. This program does not attract me at all even though I long for a new hp iPAQ h4100 series for about six months...

thats slightly unfair! over here if your ipaq goes back to HP for repair, you can almost be ceratin when it comes back it aint faithfull old 'scotty'.. I've had quite a few ipaqs go back for repair and i get a refurb one back.. so if hp saying.. sure buy a new one.. repair it.. but nooo its spoiled goods now we wont allow a trade in!!

kinda pointless for us still as we're europeans!!! PAH!!

Sounds like the rebate is "trade garbage for newer garbage" to me.
Once you get your "new" iPAQ - will it be supported?

I think not! HP Invent - hmmmmm.

Quick give me the name of a company that supports an upgradeable product, in the consumer electronics industry, beyond the 12 month half-life of personal gadgetry?

Now - give me the names of consumer electronics companies with pending class action lawsuits?
