Darn, now I wish I had gone! 8)

Doesn't that mean that the official update for the iPAQs is just around the corner?

That was my thought pacemkr.

Obviously it has been released in "some form* whether it be to just OEMs or not. I would really doubt the HP, Microsoft, or anybody would be flashing Beta code into people's devices enmass.

It also leads me to believe that HP has a finished, or 90+% finished, OEM upgrade just waiting on a date to arrive. They may be one of the first out of the gates.

Maybe we will see the official upgrade sooner than I thought.
Now to wait on new hardware designs.......

No, unfortunately ...

This is a beta and on the 221x, you will lose BT and it requires a hard reset.

This is for developers and HP makes you sign a paper saying you won't hold them responsible for problems with the update.

They won't comment on whether they will ever make an official release at all. Still, it is pretty cool!

For what its worth, Dell and Motorola are also flashing devices...

It's really interesting that these guys just sit there and flash units, instead of announcing some new models.

If they didn't require any NDA, can anybody who flashed h2210 or h4410 or dell x3 tell us the first impression?

Or some kind soul could follow these directions (http://geocities.com/ipaq41xx/) and send me a copy :)

I'm assuming you're kidding, but just in case someone takes you seriously:

PPCT would not encourage or allow this distribution unless it was clear the upgrade was intended to be freely redistributable. Obviously, we have no control over what people do using their own bandwidth, but please do not post links to illegal copies of it.

Folks, this flashing is being done at a developer's conference. Yes this is likely not validated code. Developers do have the tendency and requirement to load Beta, Release Candidate, etc., OS code to update and create apps. There is a risk and it is a disclosed risk. Note the comment on the link that shows there is a BT problem with the 22xx flash.

This time, as always, wait till your OEM releases the update for your device, or update at your own risk...no whining allowed, when you brick your box.

I'm waiting patiently.. *insert twiddling thumbs smiley*

So when do you all think we can expect this update to be released to the public from our OEMs? May? June?

Relax, most Pocket PC are flashable and in fact, we live doing that at xda-developers (http://www.xda-developers.com), most of the changes, can be reverted also.

That's not what Kati's talking about. If I understand correctly, XDA-developers makes you work with your own ROM, so the legality issues are sidestepped. Distributing beta, private code is another problem entirely, from a legal standpoint. That's all. ;)

Well not exactly, we had quite a few Beta releases, ranging from O2, T-mobile, etc. They where fully functional, except for certain details. But the main core OS, and the main benefits from it where there.

In reality is this would not be "private" code, since I hear that they are doing on site ROM upgrading to certain IPAQs, of course some programs are not there yet, and some implementations are not fully available. But the main core OS is there and should work.

This does not necessarily mean that they are agreeing to give everyone the ROM. For example, I doubt they'd be thrilled about 2002 devices being upgraded for free.

It's too bad this is (apparently) only available to attendees. I wish they would make things like this available to MSDN subscribers as well. :( 75% of the software I am running is beta.

According to iPAQabilities.com, no upgrade is offered to 5400 owner.
