I'm personally curious about what percentage of you own a digital camera - I remember Microsoft did a survey way back in 2000 that showed around 50% of Pocket PC owners had digital cameras. I suspect the readership of this site will have a much higher precentage. Let's see!

I don't own one yet, but I want to purchase one in 2003. My price limit is about $400 and I want something small and that has a SD slot. Any ideas what to get?

I'd go for something with manual controls and CompactFlash myself. For that you would need one of the Canon Sxx cameras (S30, S40, S45, S50).

I currently own a Casio Exilim EX-S2 (http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/exs2.html)

Some cool cameras coming out soon.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z3 (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0301/03010902casioexz3.asp)

The Pentax Optio S (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0301/03010801pentaxoptios.asp)

As you can see, I'm more into the super small, portable cameras. Until PPC makers can integrate at least a 2.0MP digi cam into their designs, seperate devices is the way to go for me.

I'm surprised Jason didn't have a "more than one" category in the survey.

Or a selection for "Yes I own one, AND plan on buying one in 2003."

Well, SOMEONE is always surprised we didn't add SOMETHING to the survey. Maybe we should have surveys before each survey so everyone can vote on what options they'll be able to vote on...

I simply wanted to know how many of you owned at least one digital camera - period. It's impossible to explore every facet of a question in a simple "pick one option" list, so please trust me when I say that the survey will accomplish exactly what I wanted to know. M'Kay? :D

I have one but it is only because my cheapo Samsung 35MM door broke in late 2000. If that still worked, I'd still be using it. Some thigns I am so up to date on, like software, Pocket PCs, etc. Others like TVs, cameras and stereo equipment I couln't give a flip. Our stereo at home is from 1986 except for the 1992-3 CD 7-disc changer.

heh....mines old by todays standard Olympus C-700 2Mp, but it's great.

We still do 35mm for low light situations and on vacation (don't want my C-700 trashed on a water ride :D).

BTW, Wal-Mart and Sams Club do 1MP downloadables of your prints for an extra 99 cents when you get 4x6 prints done, for that's it's worth the trouble to not have to scan them (even if you have a negative scanner).

Is there a "I own a digital camera, but 35mm Rules" option?

I voted 'yes' in the survey that I have a digital camera, however it is not your conventional camera. I have the HP compact flash camera for my Jornada 568. Does that count? I do plan to buy a real digital camera sometime this year, though.

My latest is a Sony 717, the best digicam out there (ok, just my opinion, heh, but gotta love the unique form factor).

Also have a 505, 75 and P1 from sony, the credit card sized Casio and a pocket minolta with optical zoom (my favorite pocket camera, the Casio is useless, its pictures are bad).

I am just totally in love with the 717... too bad its too large to keep with me all the time. I have the minolta on my pocket all day.

I just treated myself and purchased a Minolta Dimage Xi :D ...its tiny! (I guess I'll have to hold off on a new Pocket PC for a while though :( )

I was really split between the Canon S230 and the Dimage Xi. They are both tiny, both made out of metal, and both have custom underwater housings made for them. But believe it or not the Dimage Xi, which is thinner, has a 3x optical zoom which doesn't even potrude from the body, while the Canon only has a 2x which does extend from the body. On the other hand the Canon accepts Compact Flash cards which are much cheaper than SD. But recently the Dimage had a nice price drop so I jumped at the opportunity and got one.

The only thing I dont like about the Minolta is that you have to buy a AC adapter seperatly if you want to charge the battery while in the camera. Otherwise you have to use the included external battery charger. Also the rubber flap covering the USB port is a little flimsy. Otherwise I am in love the camera.

I've got an Olympus Camedia E-10. Its a 4 Mega Pixle prosumer camera that I bought in early 2000. To see where the price is right now makes me sick.

I paid over $1500 US for it 2 years ago. Currently, you can get it for about half that. If you're in the market for a good digital, then this one, or its successor the 5 MP E-20 is a great camera.

I have a Canon G2... Love it... Digital gives me so much freedom to shoot anything and everything...

I'm getting a Canon D10 D-SLR (6 MP) this summer to start my wedding photography business!

Do camcorders that can take photos, like the Sony PC-120, count as digital cameras in this survey? Or are you interested in "true" camera owners?

I've got the following:

A Canon S100 Digital Elph -- my main camera that I carry in my car wherever I go.
An older Kodak near-megapixel camera -- I give that to my wife or daughter as a second camera on trips and for use when my Canon's batteries die.
A really old Panasonic 640x480 digital camera that fits in your pocket (which is why I got it) -- I gave that to my daughter, but I don't think it's been used in a long time.

I of course want a newer camera. :-)

I recently purchased my first mega pixel camera, Canon G2. Such an awesome camera.

I also purchased this because Jason owns one and we all know Jason knows his digi photo stuff.

I've got a cheap 1.3mp digital camera that I just use for mucking around, proofing, video calls over the web etc.
I still use 35mm for any serious photography I do.

Anyway, you don't have the option "I use both film and digital".. just thought I'd point out that there are people who use both.

That's because I think Jason doesn't care who uses film. He wants to know who has digital cameras and who is planning to buy them. People who don't have them, whether because they prefer film or don't take pictures, and don't plan to buy any should answer no.

If you have one, regardless of what you use it for, pick yes.

That's what I did already, I picked yes. =)
