View Full Version : Is unlocking a phone always worth it?

I just odered the new Cingular 3125, and I think that I might actually keep Cingular as my service provider. If I do, is there any reason to pay the $40 and get my phone unlocked? For that matter, what exactly does unlocking do for a phone? (Anything besides network use?)

On a similar note, the 3125 comes with Windows Mobile 5. Is there anything to unlock/change there, like registry edits? Any suggestions if there are?

Speaking of WM5, can I use applications designed for WCE, or do they have to specifically note WM5?

If you stay with Cingular, then there's no advantage to unlocking the device from a SIM point of view.

There is also application lock, but the 3125 should already be application unlocked.

There are plenty of hacks and tweaks you can make. Search around the site, or even check out a copy of Tweaks2k

enjoy the phone! 8)
