Has anyone used DVD X Copy Platinum
I'm looking for a program that would allow me to archive my dvd collection to an external hard drive.
I would like to run movies directly from the external hard drive instead of from a cd-r disk. Has any one had experience with "DVD X Copy Platinum" or does anyone have knowledge on how to do this?

You could use Smart Ripper to do that. Just rip your DVD to your HD with it and then play it back with PowerDVD (or a similar program). Smart Ripper is also free.

For anyone who is interested in DVDXCopy (any version), it's worth pointing out that they've been ordered to stop producing them by the courts. More accurately, they have to strip out the ripper.

Not that I've tried it, but a lot of people swear by DVD Shrink. And it's free...

DVD Shrink is the best! It's awsome for copying DVD-9 and sticking them on a DVD-R.

but does it allow me to copy it to my hard drive and leave it there?
I want to burn my important dvd's to my hard drive and use that has my media source instead of worring about my dvd's.
I want all my movies in one convenient small space

Yeah, DVD-Srink just rips to the hard drive. So if you don't want to burn it you don't have to.
