This thread is from March. Of course, this is the kind of topic that changes.
My home computer is the same, but I am very lucky at work: we just got new Dells. 3.06GHz P4 w/ 800MHz FSB, 1GB of DDR400 (PC3200) SDRAM, 120GB 7200RPM disk (not SATA :cry, 16/4/2.4 DVD+RW, 20" 1600x1200 LCDs, Radeon 9800s. We managed to score a great deal, else we would have settled for quite a bit less.

You have radeon 9800 at office ? Lucky you !
Before I was assigned a laptop, I was assigned a dell 2.4G desktop, no DVD/CD drive, and a 32 megs videocard with no 3D capability. ha ha ha. I work at a killjoy company that do not allow staffs to have fun at work.
No CD/DVD writer, because they are very concern with company's data. the USB port is disabled from win2k, only administrator ID can enable it. Guess what ? regular user may not have access to admin level IDs (I signed a piece of paper mentioning that on my 1st day of work) ....
The computer casing is BIOS-locked. So we cannot add anything into it.
That's actually why I was so happy when I was assigned a laptop (because I can choose the spec.) .... ho ho.

My latest home desktop is running a P4 3.06G
ABIT IC7 mobo (875P chipset)
Corsair Twin 2x512 DDR400
Pixelview FX5600 pro 256mb
Maxtor 180G SATA
I choosed Abit IC7 because it has embedded 6 channel audio, UCB 2.0, firewire, SATA, RAID 0, SPDIF out ... and it is cheap ! got it for $145 at a promo sales (regular price in singapore is $180).

Fortunately, my work environment isn't a traditional work environment. I have admin on my machine, and enough game...err..."3D software" to utilize the horsepower of these new boxes.

We've got one Cyrix running as a Linux server in my dad's office. Works great. If I remember correctly, the 333+ chip was actually rebranded from "6x86" to "MII" or something.
Now, if you want a long-unheard of brand, how about NexGen?
