Default Are dial-up connection accelerators safe virus-wise?

My current dial-up connection provider is offering an "accelerator" that promises to load faster those pages the user visits frequently (PPCT in my case!)

But I am affraid it could make my equipment prone to virus invasion since I have read here that those nasty worms like fast connections.

So, is an accelerator of this kind the same thing as a fast connection like ADSL or something like this?
