It doesn't, but obviously the person that edited the picture didn't know that!

Actually, I believe WM 2K3 SE added support for "square" displays as well as VGA.

Well actually >I< believe that he said they used a PPC2002 Screenshot, not WM2003 SE. Read the first post, and then stop acting like you know it all!

square support for 240x240 and 480x480, i think. not 320x320
|
I would hope Microsoft would have learned not to hardcode a fixed set of resolutions into the Windows Mobile OS. In fact, this Microsoft article on developing for WM 2K3 SE says that 240x240 is the minimum screen size supported for Pocket PCs, but it doesn't mention any other restrictions. In fact, it even uses an example where they postulate a 321x320 screen.
Given that, I would guess WM 2K3 SE supports pretty much any resolution 240x240 or larger.
Of course, with Photoshop, it's really moot. You can put any size display on the screen regardless of the dimensions. :-D

I did read the post. In fact, I usually read every post in a thread before I comment, as I did in this one. But thanks for the suggestion.
Anyway, who cares what OS the picture shows? It's a Photoshopped image! If PalmOne were going to bring out a PDA with a Microsoft OS, do you really think they'd use Pocket PC 2002, or would they go with the latest OS? And WM 2K3 SE, the latest OS, supports square screens, which was my point. :takethat:

Actually, they'd use DOS3.3.

I would think that P1 bringing out a PPC would be commiting suicide. Customer's that buy from them for PalmOS would think that they are abandoning PalmOS. On the other side, they'd just be another PPC maker to be crushed by HP. What's the advantage for them here? About the only way I could see them doing this is if Dell bought them.

I think Ed started this thread as a joke, having some fun with an obviously doctored photo. I played along by citing Jason's thread about some Microsoft guy claiming PalmOne could do a Windows Mobile device.
I think the Microsoft guy had a keen sense of the obvious -- of course PalmOne could use the Pocket PC OS; I just doubt they will.
Is anybody really taking this thread seriously? :-D

actually, this looks like they printed a screenshot and placed inside a tungsten dummy device.
i think there should be an international sign that designer use if they do things like that on purpose.
a smiley's too obvious, though.

Regarding the 320x320 display question, closer scrutiny of the picture will reveal that the Tungsten's "screen" is more on the squished side.
