Default Zune HD Hardware Deep Dive (Part 3)

This is a "deep dive" video where I take a closer look at the device. This is part three; part one is found here, part two is found here. The model I'm looking at here is the 16 GB model, in black, and it sells for $219 USD as of September 2009.

Jason Dunn owns and operates Thoughts Media Inc., a company dedicated to creating the best in online communities. He enjoys photography, mobile devices, blogging, digital media content creation/editing, and pretty much all technology. He lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with his lovely wife, and his sometimes obedient dog. He wonders if the Zune is ever going to exist outside the USA.

Do you enjoy using new hardware, software and accessories, then sharing your experience with others? Then join us on the Thoughts Media Review Team! We're looking for individuals who find it fun to test new gear and give their honest opinions about the experience. It's a volunteer role with some great perks. Interested? Then click here for more information.

Default Wireless settings

One of my bigger frustrations with my zune is that for wireless you can only access WEP wireless points. So if I'm at my school and I have to enter both a username and a password, I'm out of luck. On an older zune that's not such a huge deal since all you can do with wireless is buy music. However, with the zune hd you'll be able to get online obviously - so being able to get onto more sophisticated wireless encryptions would be great.

So, you kinda glossed over wireless setup in your movie - could you maybe either post a vid or explain in greater detail what options you have for wireless? Thanks.

The Zune HD supports...

Encryption modes: WEP 64- and 128-bit, TKIP, and AES
Authentication modes: Open, WEP, WPA, and WPA2
802.11b and 802.11g

And because you have a browser now, you can authenticate on user/password-based networks.
