Default Zune Desktop Release Date Confirmed

http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/03/...de-zune-hd-lau/

“Unless Microsoft's playing a nasty trick on its loyal fanbase, the latest Zune newsletter confirms a feature-laden software update, very likely what we've been calling Zune 4.0, is due out on Tuesday, September 15th, the same day as Zune HD takes its place among its fading peers.”

I haven't actually gotten my newsletter yet so I'll have to take Engadget's word that that it has a real newsletter. In some of the least surprising news I've heard in a while, its essentially confirmed now that the next iteration of the Zune software will launch with the Zune HD on the 15th.

I'm definitely looking forward to many of the reported features, especially HD movie content. I keep dreaming of the day that I no longer buy my content on media and get it all digitally and I hope that this moves me one step closer!

I don't know why this would make news on Engadget when the Zune team has consistently been saying that both the Zune software and hardware would launch the same day. I've heard it plenty of times on the Zune Insider podcast and other team interviews...

I'm not even sure why it's news as we don't know anything about the new software. I'd love to know what's changed, but will be waiting another two weeks to just see it at this point (plus a couple of hours for the link to actually appear and work).

If there are any details that can be shared, that would be great.

On the topic of the release date, I forgot to ask that if anyone knew if Amazon.com planned on shipping Zune HD pre-order units to have them delivered on Sept. 15? I know they do that with some of the big product launches, but wasn't sure/haven't heard about the Zune HD's plans. Would appreciate any knowledge on the subject.

I pre-ordered my Zune HD through Amazon.com. I received an email a few minutes ago saying you can get Release-Date Delivery.

Oh, And I just want to say I love this site. I check everyday for updates. Thanks.
