Zune HD Size Calculations
Josh Sorenson from Cruleworld's Lifestream, hit me up on Twitter and let me know he'd done some caculations - the Zune team is being tight-lipped on the specifications of the Zune HD, but assuming that the photos are accurate, with a known screen size we can figure out the size of the device itself. The big deal would seem to be the thickness - a mere 0.35 inches. For comparison's sake, the iPod Touch is 0.33 inches thick, so essentially the same. And that's really thin.

the special screws are freaking me out. I have this feeling this is going to tie in to a Microsoft store where you have to take it in so they can use the special "zunedriver" to take the back off and replace the battery.

I'm more interested in the inside dimensions than the outside. Are these going to be flash, SSD (bigger flash), Hard Drive? If they are going to support HD (HiDef), we could be looking at 4 times the file size for any video content, just so you could output it to a larger HD screen if you wanted too. The screen on it certainly isn't HD. I personnaly put content on a portable device, so I can listen/watch it when I am out and about. I guess some might take them to a friends house to plug into an entertainment center, for HD sharing, but that's not me. At home, I already have ways to watch HD without involving the PMP. The ancillary issue there is the transfer time to get these big files onto the device. Zune is pretty fast now, IMHO, but four times the file size means four times the transfer time.

Does anyone besides me think the part on the side where the caption reads "Button?" look unusually reminiscent of an SD card slot?
As for the screws, Rapid Repair caries drivers for those tri-head screws. No worries there.

I WISH! But no, I'm 99.99% sure there's no removable storage on this thing. It would be BRILLIANT if they added some, but they won't...because Apple doesn't.

Ya can't blame a guy for hoping....
I don't know. I mean we really love our Zunes. We have four in the house including my coveted 120! We have accessories all over the place so I am THRILLED to at least see that MS has kept the same plug. I just keep hoping that MS will stop chasing Apple and start being innovative. Hey MS just something simple like Bluetooth would be innovative and a step in the right direction. I am excited about HD radio as that is a feature with a lot of potential.
All in all I am really looking forward to this new Zune. It seems Microsoft is really doing a multi media device with this one. It should be out right around my birthday. I am hoping that MS will surprise us with some other models beside this one.
