Default 12-Year Old Gets Zune with 'Extras'

http://www.myfoxchicago.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail?contentId=1823428&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=1.1.1

"Chanell Martin thought she was being a cool mom when she gave her 12-year old daughter a shiny new Zune for the Holidays. But as it turns out, her daughter's "welcome to the social" was anything but innocent. Apparently the Zune, which Martin purchased at a local Walmart, came with a 1-hour and 44-minute homemade porn video. We're talking guy-on-guy action here. Walmart's response? After blaming MS for the porn, they refunded the Martins and gave them a $25-dollar gift certificate."

All I can say is this: How come my Zune didn't come with pr0n preloaded? All I got was a bunch of lame songs and a sample video, all of which I erased immediately. I would have paid much more for pre-loaded content I was actually interested in. ;-)

Note: the link will take you to a video report (it's office safe, but you might turn the volume down a tad).

In all seriousness, how does something like this happen? I have a hard time believing that this is happening on the manufacturing end, unless it is some unique issue related to a disgruntled employee. As a result, I have to wonder if this isn't an "open box" unit that was returned to the store, and subsequently resold without being checked.

I also find this strange with the recent news story about a similar event in New York (I believe?) related to porn being found on a memory card or key that a parent bought their child at a gaming store - what are the odds of similar events occurring like this? Anyone wondering like me if there isn't some deliberate tampering going on here to "make the news"?

I just saw this report on FoxNews.com. I have to believe like mcsouth that this was a returned unit that wasn't checked and resold to this customer.

I should have seen that something like this would be inevitable eventually. Nothing like having your homemade pr0n videos to carry with you on the go for your morning commute! Wonder if the previous owner (if that's what it was rather than tampering) was planning to "squirt" his video with his friends... (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

The first thing that popped into my head was that it was a returned unit.

Clearly. I'd go so far as to say it was someone's idea of a funny joke. Sadly, now that it is in the news they are probably laughing doubly hard.

That's absolutely what I believe happened - the story commented that the child found that the items inside the box were already opened. Lazy-ass Wal-Mart!

i absolutely believe it. i can't tell you how many electronics i've purchased from walmart that had been opened, used, returned, and stuck right back on the shelf.

i bought a psp there that had been obviously opened and played with. the wrist strap was attached, the settings had been changed and it was covered in finger prints. nevermind the fact that they didn't even know what it was and kept calling it a ps2, but they eventually just boxed it up, and switched it out with a new one behind the glass right in front of me for someone else to come along and buy.
