Best of all,<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/28/new-amazon-kindle-announced-139-wifi-only-version-and-189-3g/" target="_blank"> the WiFi only and 3G readers</a> have newly lowered prices (though they're still not exactly bargain basement level). We've spent the past few days putting the tinier Kindle through the paces to see just how much Amazon's improved it."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/dht/auto/1283286856.usr19541.jpg" style="border: 0;" /></p><p>If you liked the graphite coloring and improved screen of the Kindle DX, but balked at the rather hefty physical size and price tag, take a look at the "latest generation" versions of Amazon's 6-inch display models: the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Wireless-Reading-Display-Graphite/dp/B002Y27P3M/ref=amb_link_353169942_2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=center-10&amp;pf_rd_r=0CS95FEXTDG9RD9BRCMZ&amp;pf_rd_t=201&amp;pf_rd_p=1270979502&amp;pf_rd_i=B002FQJT3Q" target="_blank">"Kindle"</a> (WiFi only), at $139.00, and the "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Wireless-Reading-Display-Globally/dp/B003FSUDM4/ref=amb_link_353259562_2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=center-10&amp;pf_rd_r=0YTNSRY66XNVR88W3VPN&amp;pf_rd_t=201&amp;pf_rd_p=1273384342&amp;pf_rd_i=B002Y27P3M" target="_blank">Kindle 3G</a>" (Free 3G + Wifi), at $189. Both units are physically smaller than their predecessors (and are extremely thin, as shown by the above comparison to a pencil!), feature the new screen technology, and may be ordered for mid-September (2010) delivery. Both also feature four "Experimental Features" - such as "Read-to-Me" and a "New WebKit-Based Browser" - but only the Kindle 3G offers the option of a white case at this time. Read the Engadget review for some interesting hands-on usage comments, along with their usual nice selection of photos.&nbsp;</p>

Am waiting very impatiently for mine to arrive :( I've been very wary of the e-book reading thingies out there, but at $139 it's cheap enough that I can take a risk. But I waited too long after announce so I'm stuck in the backorder list with an ETA of Sept 8th :(

I want to like the Kindle because I use the iPhone app and enjoy Amazon's library but the Nook feels so much better in my hands and that small color touch screen is very handy. I don't miss the physical keyboard because I rarely type and the touch screen keyboard works pretty well.

Out of curiosity - and if it is not intruding: What, specifically, made you wary about purchasing?

Was it Price alone, or did other things factor into your hesitation?

Forgive me for not looking around the site first ... :o ... but is this your First Kindle, or similar e-book reader?
Or are you trading up for some added feature(s)?

Find this product category fascinating, because although (In Theory) can see potential benefits, I find myself strangely NOT tempted by them.

Although we receive a number of electronic publications - mostly business - on our computers, I still prefer Real Paper for extensive personal / pleasure reading.

We even continue to subscribe to what is left of the local newspaper...
