New Potato is one of the lead outfits in this area, and they've just introduced a kit that turns the iPhone into a bike super-computer. While it looks good initially, I'd have serious concerns about riding in inclement weather and/or off-road. Cult of Mac will be reporting on their test results soon, the kit+app are available now.</p>

I've tried several other iphone bike apps, they share the same fatal flaws as this one...

1) It sucks the battery dry -- I couldn't ride more than 2hrs before I had to shut down the apps so I could make at least one call when I finally finished my ride.
2) No heart monitor. My current bike computer uses heart rate based info for determining calories burned. -- This one doesnt provide a heart rate monitor.
3) The phone is out front on the bike - exposed to weather and just beagging to be broken if I crash...

For me my I phone stays in my trunk bag, and a garmin goes on the handle bars.

$99 gets you plenty of options that, as others have said, don't need you to worry about crashes, weather, and running the batteries dry. I also don't like having a huge lump in front of me when I cycle; I'll take something smaller thank you!
