Office Mobile 2010 Not Exclusive To Windows Phone 7

Yeeesh. NeoWin.net is reporting that Office Mobile 2010 will be carried not just on Windows Phone 7, but also other mobile platforms such as Nokia's. While it isn't clear what these other platforms will be (Nokia backs MeeGo as well as Symbian), that takes away a huge selling point for Windows Phone 7 - as if we needed more excuses. While this development is certainly great for the Office team at Microsoft, I'm wondering exactly what the Mobile side thinks of this. Good? Bad? Let us know!</p>

While, at first sight, it could seem a contraddiction.... it is not: MS cash cows are Windows and Office, period.

Expanding the amount of users that can use "Office" apps from their smartphones could be a further incentive for users to stick with whatever version of the suite they use and maybe, even move to 2010 version.

Is there a risk to undermine "Windows mobile" or whatever they call it nowadays? Sure but the entire MS "mobile" scenario is risible compared to the Office one.
And these are the same reasons why they licensed Exchange to everybody: Exchange is a fundamental piece of the Windows client, Windows Server, Office strategy.

Yep. In addition to that they need to promote Sharepoint and also mitigate risks related to Google Docs and the likes.

office mobile 2010 is so stripped down* that it's not even much of a selling point. and if they wanted it to be, MS could easily upgrade the WP7 experience and give other platforms a "basic" version office mobile 2010

What is the point of a stripped down mobile Office when you can have editing in Quick Office or Documents to Go on other platforms?
