In consequence, all orders placed from now will normally only be available between the 25th of June and the 5th of July."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/at/auto/1276644438.usr105634.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></p><p>I tried numerous times, even on Apple's website, and was out of luck for pre-order, so I'll be hoofing it into an Apple Store on launch day to buy one. Not only was this a rough day when trying to do a pre-order, it also appears AT&amp;T might have another security problem according to Gizmodo via <a href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/06/15/iphone_4_preorders_rumored_to_involve_another_att_security_breach.html" target="_blank">Apple Insider</a>. We'll see how that security problem turns out soon I'm sure, but it is good to see such a high interest in the new iPhone. I'm just hoping that there a few left when I go to get in line for mine!&nbsp;</p>

I think the frenzy for this new one will rival the first iPhone. AT&T's issues will not help matters much I fear.

I think you are right Jerry!

To keep me warm in the mean time, I do have iOS4 running on my 3GS. It is enough to help me wait out the storm that has started.

The media and mindshare frenzy may be similar, but the actual sales will totally blow the first iPhone away (as did sales of the 3G and 3GS in the 2 previous years). The first iPhone took 74 days to sell a million units, and that was only after sales accelerated with the $200 price cut. The subsidized 3G sold a million units in its first weekend, and the 3GS did the same in its first 3 days in stores (with the help of pre-orders for the first time). I expect iPhone 4 might exceed that.

I wonder how many pre-orders they took yesterday. I remember last year I waited a full week to pre-order my 3GS but I was still able to get it delivered on launch day (4 days after my order). This year the pre-orders sold out the initial batch in less than 1 day. I doubt they would have less stock on hand than last year unless they're having some kind of supply-chain issue (and there have been no rumors of that although there were plenty of supply-chain rumors surrounding the iPad launch).

How is iOS4 treating you? My battery life seems to have gone down by a lot on iOS4 GM. And the Notes app doesn't always save my changes (i.e. I lose edits to my notes). The mult-tasking UI looks nice, but doesn't do much until the apps are rebuilt to implement Apple's new state-saving (or actual backgrounding) API's.

Spell-checker and Folders are nice though.

Looks like the official numbers are 600,000 preorders on day 1. iPhone 4 is on track to blow away all previous iPhone sales numbers (at least upon launch).

I have noticed and agree with the things you site except the notes issue, only because I haven't used it since I installed iOS4. With regard to the battery life I haven't had a heavy use day yet but I did notice the % remaining seemed to drop lower a bit sooner than usual.
