For me, it's less about DPI (1200 dpi is high enough for almost anything for my needs), than it is about the size of the scanners. All the consumer-grade scanners are still limited to letter-sized scans. Give me a 12" x 12" scanner and I'd be happy! That's something I'd pay for.

There are large format scanners, Jason, but as you've no doubt noticed, they're just not available at the consumer level. You're talking about some very expensive stuff!

Yeah, exactly - I know they're out there, but they're quite expensive. And the large format scanners are HUGE and for HUGE items...full-size blueprints, etc. All I want is a few inches...I think too that item/object scanning is another interesting place for consumer scanners to go. More DPI? Meh. That's not so exciting.
