That's handy and interesting but I'm not sure I understand the types listed under "Files", e.g. clean and dirty. Lala, for example, claims to offer DRM-free MP3s and that's been my experience so far. Any idea what "dirty" is referring to in this context?

Uhh, how can a list of online retailers for MP3s omit the Zune Marketplace? That's just silly!

It means that some sort of identification of the user who purchased the file is "watermarked" into the file somehow. If you look at a binary dump of the actual song file, you will see a string that identifies who purchased the file.

It is good to know about this if you ever share files with others. If you never do, obviously, you have nothing to be concerned about.

I think there's a weird perception that everything Microsoft does = DRM. Most of the Zune catalog is MP3, but the stigma persists...

Yeah - North Americans generally write content for North Americans...and quite often leave out Canada, so I know what you feel like. ;)
