The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that the snatched iPhones incident began when a mom and her stepdaughter were getting aboard the SheiKra roller coaster at Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida. The theme park provides unlocked storage bins for people to put things in so they don't fly away during the ride, so their two iPhones (in purses) were dropped in. Probably not a very safe thing to do, but that's what they did."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/zt/auto/1267299291.usr105634.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></p><p>MobileMe cracks yet another theft case! And they actually tracked down both iPhones in the hands of what appears to be a career criminal (19 prior convictions) 45 minutes after they were taken.</p>

The details of this story are worth a read, but for an unexpected reason. At the very end of the Florida tale is a link to an incident in Chicago, about which the victim of phone thievery wrote in great detail.

It is hilarious! The bottom line is that three out-of-towners tracked down and retrieved a stolen phone all on their own. Had I been the victim, though, I would have been WAY too embarrassed to reveal certain details:

--He was visiting Chicago for a LEGO convention.
--He opted to miss the convention's "closing ceremony" in favor of sleuthing out the thief (Can't you just imagine a huge table-top, surrounded by hundreds of nerds all watching a tiny Olympic-style, LEGO-people ceremony?).
--He was stupid enough to chase the thief to his home neighborhood and confront him.

An interesting story, but definitely one for the category of "Kids, Don't Try This At Home -- Especially If You're Just an Overgrown Kid Yourself."
