Mainly happening to POP accounts, with some reports it is happening to IMAP accounts, that mail messages are not being deleted and re-downloading the next time you check your mail. This started with the 10.6.1 update, but I haven't seen the behavior with mine, however I do have mine set up as IMAP. Is it happening to you, or are you using the Apple Mail program? If you don't use Mail, what program do you use for your email?&nbsp;</p>

I use Entourage 2008 primarily because it has better rules and because rules still work even after a message has been viewed on my iPhone. Problem with Mail is that if you look at a message on the phone, rules don't run against that message which is extremely annoying to me. I use IMAP (why would anyone use POP?).

I have not had that problem, and I download from multiple accounts.

Mine seem to. And I'd use IMAP if my ISP would support it! (Another plus with POP is that I can maintain an archive of messages without having to keep them on the server.)

Could be because you're using POP or an account other than Mobile Me. *Shrug*. Entourage makes it a non-issue.

Also, realise that with IMAP your mail client can maintain local copies on your HD if you wish (both Mail and Entourage allow this).

I use both POP and IMAP; all accounts are fine (including my MobileMe account - I also IMAP gmail and a couple of other accounts.) Generally for my IMAP accounts, I prefer keeping Mail and the server in sync. But my understanding of IMAP support is that if I delete it from the server, the message will delete from the local store as well, unless I write a rule or something to copy it to a local folder when it arrives. With POP, I don't have to worry about that - I just set the account to delete messages older than a week and make sure that my backups are working.

Using POP also allows my wife to see messages as new for the shared email account we use. If we used IMAP and had one of the accounts set to delete messages when they were deleted locally, she may not see messages that I deleted earlier. Plus messages are not marked as read after I read them (or vice versa.)

So, there are a few reasons why people use POP.

Mine is handled through MobileMe. No problems with duplicates but I still have the known issue of MM's smtp server. Half the time it times out because it couldn't connect to it
