Hi, all........

Newbie to this forum. Yes I know I should have backed up my data but in fact I did to a CF card but the Ipaq will not read it. Also, whatever OS is in this thing will not sync with our friend Vista 64.

The history of this unit is that my son gave it to me after his company went to blackberries. I only use this as a PDA and don't want to merge with a cell phone, however I also want to run genealogy software on it. I replaced the battery with one I bought on Ebay but it never kept a charge more than a week. Is this normal??

Unfortunately I left it off charge for a few weeks and it was completely flat-no data at all. It will be a monumental pain to reconstruct my data but I can do it. My question is: is it worth it? Should I get another battery? Isn't there a back-up battery in this thing I should replace? Or should I consider getting a better PDA.

I'd appreciate the benefit of your collective wisdom. Thanks.

I would suggest getting a newer one with windows mobile 5, the older ones had everything in RAM which as you have found will wipe clean immediately after the power is drained. Windows mobile 5 ones have persistent storage and are not susceptible to the same problem.
They are also capable of syncing to a vista machine.
This would run you $100 used on Ebay,...just a thought.
