Ah, don't you just love inaccurate reporting from journalists? First, we have this San Fransisco Chronicle article which quotes Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division (where the Zune resides), as saying this:

"We're still about nine months into having Zune in the marketplace. We're very pleased with the progress. We've sold a little over a million Zunes. In the category we're in, the hard-disk-based category, we've got about 10 percent market share. It's a good start. It's not an overwhelming start. I'm not going to pretend it's some gigantic move."

Not surprisingly blogs everywhere exploded with the news. And exciting news it was - but there's one problem. It's not actually true. As Apple 2.0 points out, if you listen to the audio recording of the interview, what Bach really said was this:

"When we finish our fiscal year in June we'll have sold a little over a million Zunes, so we feel very good about that."

So we're back to where we started: Microsoft has the goal of selling one million Zune units by the end of their fiscal year, which is June. Will they do it? It sounds like they're close, so we'll see...
