File it under "saw it coming a mile away," the update breaks compatibility with Palm's "MediaSync" hack."

The update, released yesterday, breaks the MediaSync feature in the Palm Pre that allowed the device to register and sync non-DRM songs and videos with iTunes. According to the Apple update page, the update "iTunes 8.2.1 provides a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices." Of course you can always choose not to upgrade and it will still work, and I have yet to find out what this update does other than break the hack so I'm not sure if there are benefits to the update. So if you have a Palm Pre, best to keep your current iTunes version if you use MediaSync.
