There are probably many diverse opinions on this, as I suppose it's largely a subjective matter. But I'll go ahead and ask anyway. I'm finally going to replace my ancient iPAQ 2210. I'd love an iPhone but that's out because I must be able to transfer across my Memory-Map application for GPS recording, and I gather that need a Windows OS.

So what would others recommend please? And, given that I'm now retired and don't use my (basic) mobile much, is there still any merit in considering a PPC that is not also a phone?

As you said, there are many opinions on this, but I love everything about my Samsung Omnia. I thought I would miss a slide-out keyboard, but with the many on-screen keyboard apps out there it isn't a problem. Some of my friends wonder why their iPhone won't do all the things my Omnia does. It's simply a great PPC/phone that is always reliable, something I couldn't say about my previous htc phone. There is now an Omnia II on the way, which might be worth considering.

Regardless of what you decide on, before you make that decision check out the specs on your choices. More RAM is always better. Since the day of the stylus is fading, I would also try some different keyboard options before deciding, if you do much text input.

Good luck with your search.
