This did not used to be the case - previously you'd be given a dialog stating you'd already bought it and you could go ahead and re-download it for free. Now the dialog says you can still re-download it for free on your computer (via iTunes), but if you want to download it again directly to your iPhone, you've got to buy it again."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com//at/auto/1243822630.usr18053.png" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></p><p>Obviously a side-effect of having the ability to switch accounts, you can't just download the same app over and over again on your iPhone itself.&nbsp; Not all users are having this problem, though, so your mileage may vary, but it's obvious that a change is a-comin'.&nbsp; It's a change I'm not happy with, but at least, for once, I understand it.</p>

So does this mean that people who have multiple iPhones/iPod Touch's and use the same iTunes account to get the same apps installed on both devices can't do that any more?

Not the way I understand it; this is just to keep you from switching accounts and re-downloading apps from four different accounts. Beth and I are both tied to my account and from what I understand, nothing will change for us except for re-downloading, which will have to be via a desktop.

ONe of the best things about the iPhone / Touch is that as long as your account is on all the devices, all your stuff is available on them. If that changed, it would suck. (Frankly, that's one of the things MS got wrong with the WinMo marketplace from what I understand of Ed's article about it).
