The big news is that push notifications and in-app purchasing followed this release, giving developers a chance to try them out. Engadget has reported on significant instability with beta 1, so here's hoping that's been improved."</em></p><p><em><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/at/auto/1238599277.usr105634.jpg" /></em></p><p>Among the improvements were speed and stability, always a good thing! Developers also report that this takes care of a number of bugs that were in the first version, and several components such as Bluetooth, MapKit and GameKit received special attention. They are also supporting MMS and tethering with this, however Apple is asking developers not to use it at this time. So cruel teasing them like that! The <a href="http://developer.apple.com/iphone/" target="_blank">beta</a> is available, of course, from Apple.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

A friend of mine paid for the developer kit, and hooked me up with the first beta. I'm eager to get the second beta. Instability is right. For the first time in my life, I rebooted my iPod Touch more often in a day than I did my Windows Mobile phone. For some reason, one of my podcast playlists keeps coming up empty on the touch, while iTunes shows it normal. Also, the music and video applications were crashing a lot. For a few moments today, I thought I'd have to live without podcasts at work.

Also, it takes a long time to sync. More than an hour.

If beta 2 is more stable, I'm eager to see it. I understand betas are unstable. On the plus side, copy and paste works great, and landscape mail is awesome. I'm eager to get an iPhone.
