Would I be unpopular if I pointed out the obvious limitations with regard to background processing and receiving incoming calls and messages? Yes? Okay, never mind. :)

Hopefully the notification system will help alleviate this with 3.0. However, I'm not convinced that the potential latency of the notifications will not make real-time call notification feasible.

I think you're right, btw. I'm thinking for more of a "I need to make a skype call" than "I need my skype number working all the time" thing, but yes, that no background thing really does prove to suck right about now.

Rumor: Skype for iPhone Lands Tomorrow

It's the real deal. The app is already available in the Australian App Store. I'm assuming it'll hit the US store when it's Tuesday there.

Skype available in the US iTunes store at 11:30pm Monday night. works very nicely too.
