The Mac OS is now hovering around the 10 percent mark among operating systems accessing the Web."</em></p><p><em><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/at/auto/1233581421.usr105634.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></em></p><p>To go along with the iPhone market share increase, users accessing the web did so with OS X 9.93 percent of the time, up from 9.63 percent in December 2008. Interesting to note, while Windows was still number one overall, it is in a slight downward trend going down to 88.26 percent in January from 88.68 percent in December 2008.&nbsp;</p>

Is it really statistically significant? They don't really give us a lot of info on the statistics collection. Still, I'm not surprised about the Touch usage. When it doesn't crash on me, Safari Mobile is incredibly handy to have on the go and the zooming is incredibly well implemented.

I can't help but wonder, though, how these stats translate into real world Mac usage. And how do they identify separate machines? For example, I have three active web accessing Macs here that access the 'Net through a router and a single external IP address - like most multiple computer households. So I hit a web site from all three computers. Is that counted as 1 machine (because there's only a single IP address)?

Just curious.
