This laptop features an 18.4 inch, 1920 x 1080 (1080p), 16 by 9 aspect ratio screen, and weighs in at 8.9 pounds (4.06 kg). It features an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 CPU (2.26 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB ), 4 GB of DDR2 RAM, a 320 GB 5400 RPM SATA drive, a LightScribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer, Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet, Intel WiFi Link 5100AGN, four USB ports, an ExpressCard 54 slot, and a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics card.

Priced on February 3rd at HP.com, the laptop would cost $1363.99 USD. This exact model number is only available in Canada where it was available for $1599.99 CAD as a holiday special and at this point it's not being offered any more. The more commonly available version, currently on sale from Best Buy Canada, is the HDX X18-1180ca, which is a quad-core CPU model and sells for $2199 CAD.

Look for a follow up video review later this week. The audio on this video is unfortunately not up to par - I neglected to take off the shotgun microphone I had attached to the camera, and as a result it didn't pick up my voice as well as the integrated microphone. I hadn't done an unboxing video in so long, I was rusty!

Jason Dunn owns and operates Thoughts Media Inc., a company dedicated to creating the best in online communities. I just customized a Sony Vaio AW series laptop which was delivered last week with almost the same specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9550 (2.66 GHz)
18.4 size screen
Tv Tuner
(Personalized Engraving with my Name)
WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n
Bluetooth
Blu-ray Disc Read and Write
XBrite-FullHD (1920x1080)
8 GB DDR2-SDRAM (4 GBx2)
512 MB Video Memory
MS Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
640 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 rpm)
Biometric Scanner
3 USB Ports
Express Card Slot
Compact Flash Slot
MMC/SD etc. slot
Webcam
HDMI port
Firewire

Just over $3K after all was said and done. This is my first Sony machine. I was alway an HP kinda guy.

Wow, nice machine! Over $3K though...ouch. Hopefully it measures up and does everything you need it to do. Was there a quad-core option on the Sony? There's a quad-core option on the HP, but I wasn't sent one of those units - which is kind of a shame. Having a notebook that big just screams out for more cores...

No quad-core option unfortunately and yes I did hesitate a few days at the final price, but for what a MAC Book Pro costs (which was my first option after seeing my daughter's) I sucked it up. Besides, I thought about it and decided to stay with Windows and not jump ship. Just used to MS.

You'd forgotten how to do an unboxing video because you were so busy trying to explain geek porn to the media :D

Yeah, no doubt! Honestly, not the best unboxing video I've done - the fact that it's so HUGE played into it too...
