It appears some have been duped into buying the latest iPhone, the iPhone Nano. No big surprise this is happening in the Far East, the hotbed for all things counterfeit.</p>

My best guess is that most folks in the FE can't afford the real thing and buy these rip offs for looks and as a status symbol.

Just a guess because I can't believe they'd be that gullible unless they are as uninformed as they are poor!

Yep, it seems that wherever there is a scam, there is also someone that will fall for it. We had a caller the other day (my day job is in a 911 center) reporting he thinks he was victim of a fraud. Turns out he was duped by one of the Nigerian emails, even after the news has reported on this for years. Oh, and he was a dentist so it's not likely he has been out of the loop re: technology and information :-).

I wouldn't think that at all. I don't believe that everybody who might want a cheap iPhone follows technology news. If you're walking down the street and somebody said, "Want to buy the latest iPhone Nano cheap?", I could see some people jumping at it. They're likely the same people who buy fake Rolexes in New York City and other such places.

They may be gullible, but saying that they should have read the Apple news is going a bit far, I think.

Technicaly speaking...why are these things fake as there is no original? Apple hasn't even confirmed the existence of a iPhone Nano. Therefore Apple is in trouble when they release a rip off of these chinese devices :)

While they may be original products, they're fake because they aren't iPhones.
