<p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/dht/auto/1230074378.usr1.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></p><p>If you watch TV, even skipping the commercials, you've probably seen <a href="http://www.ashtonscoolpix.com/" target="_blank">Nikon's Ashton Kutcher commercials</a>. Nikon has been out-advertising Canon at every turn as far as I can tell, but it looks like Canon is <a href="http://www.mediaincanada.com/articles/mic/20081021/canonavrillavigne.html" target="_blank">finally fighting back</a> - and they're starting with a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2azfsTnb5Ek" target="_blank">promotion starring Avril Lavigne</a>. I screen-capped the above image from a commercial I saw on TV - though I think this is only part of Canon Canada's promotion. Has anyone else seen Canon doing any "star promotions" in their own country?</p>

Personally, after Avril's third album, I lost a bit of respect for Canon when I first saw this commercial.

I have to agree, the third album wasn't so hot. But she was still fun to see in concert. Although she's better when she's not trying to rock out!

They didn't show the Canon ads with Maria Sharapova (http://www.usa.canon.com/app/html/Maria_Sharapova/main.html) (and her dog) in Canada? Those have been running in the U.S. for maybe a year.

That's certainly refreshing, isn't it? Kinda like Linda Hamilton with the weapons in Terminator 2.

Yes, we had those Sharapova ones in Canada too. Not too much during prime time, but certainly during televised tennis tournaments and such.
