Funnily enough I have been rather blessed with good luck with my phones. Other than the time I dropped one in the toilet of a rather crowded bar... Fell out of my back pocket. That was unpleasant to say the least :o

My biggest issue would be throwing my iPhone into my bag and the paranoia of how many scratches it will have... And unfortunately the pockets in womens jeans are a bit small for the iPhone to live comfortably.

Which is why my 3G needs a case ;)

Okay this isn't really a horror story about how a case could have prevented damage to my phone, but how the wrong case actually caused damage. Alas the damage was very slight and only I will probably ever know it's there, but the day I got my shiny new iPhone 3G, I bought a case to keep it shiny and new. The subject case was the Griffin Wave (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/wave3g). Unbeknownst to me; dust, pocket lint, boll weevils, and an assortment of other small entities found their way between the hard plastic case and my iPhone. Weeks later when I removed the case, to my utter horror I discovered hairline scratches all along what was once a perfect and shiny chrome bezel! I'll never again use a hard plastic case on my gadgets.

In contrast, my old school iPod has been kept in a pliable and supple wallet type case crafted in rich Corinthian leatherette. After several loyal years of daily use, it still shines like new. :)

The moral of this story? Don't just get a case to protect your gear, get the right case. Also, I want one of these sweet cases from Sena! :D

After a faceplant on the concrete. Still works too.
