I'll never be convinced otherwise. Enjoy this trip down memory lane, and remember; this video is only 20 or so years old. Look how far we've come (and at the same time look how much has stayed similar or the same) since!</p>

And it also adds salt to the wound that is no copy/paste on the iPhone (insert chair beating head emoticon)<insert chair="" beating="" head="" emoticon=""></insert>

By the time I was about to buy the Newton it was about to be gone. Few years later I bought a Palm Pilot and then jumped to the IPAQ as WM was in my opinion better than what was being offered by Palm. But how did (and still do) I miss that functionality seen in the Newton. I hope that Apple takes up again on this product (MacTablet??) or bring similar capabilities to the iPhone/iPod Touch...

My experiences are pretty similar. I started out with a Palm Pilot Pro, moved to a III, IIIx, Vx, M505, and then all Windows Mobile from there on for the same reasons. I think Apple is angling toward a Newton-like device soon. I'd be surprised if we don't see one within the next year or so. The iPhone and Touch are close, but I think they want to do the Tablet thing in a similar form factor and are just waiting for a good time to release it; namely when it won't cannibalize iPhone and iPod Touch sales.
I was saving to buy a newton... it was really expensive at the time. But as a student, i thought i could find a million uses... but then it was killed. Sad me. I started with a pocket pc. Then i moved to symbian.

If I recall correctly wasn't the Message Pad the first touch screen PDA? Which would actually make the iPhone Apples 3rd PDA design and 2nd mobile OS.
