This looks like a cool phone. A 528 mhz processor, 256 ram, Windows Mobile 6.1, HSDPA/WCDMA with up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps download speeds, standalone GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, MicroSD slot, and a 3.2 megapixel camera. What's not to like about the HTC 740? I remember when computers had far less specs than this. Expansys has it unlocked for $549.99. [Affiliate] To be honest, with these specs I thought it would cost more. So are you going to get one? Let us know.

My preference is for an SGH-i627, but if that doesn't come to fruition I'll consider a 740.

Mine S740 arrived yesterday. For what I can say so far, it is one great device. It's even better looking than it was in the pictures (it has glossy keypad, unlike pre-production units) and it is astonishingly fast.
Feel free to ask me any questions about it.

No US 3G ruins it for me. I'm sick of HTC ignoring the US with it's most exciting devices, such as this, and the TouchHD. I'm officially boycotting HTC until they start offering those of us in the US the same top end devices the rest of the world gets.

I'm eligible for an upgrade on my Sprint account. Came to close to getting a Touch Diamond or Pro, but then decided not to. Why give HTC money when they clearly look at the US carriers are their market, not US users.

You know that is a good point. I just looked at expansys for this and the touch pro and both are 3G (HSDPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz) for Europe only.

The GSM/GPRS/EDGE will easily work for the US but unfortunetly we won't get what companies - like ATT have in their 3G offering which is UMTS 850/1900 although from what I read in Wikipedia, T-Mo supports (or wil) the 2100MHz UTMS - so you may have some chance using them...

Here is that Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS
