Unfortunately, the only way to sync your iPod is to use Apple's iTunes software. Till today... That's right, kiss iTunes goodbye and start syncing your iPod with Windows Media Player! Finally, there is a solution that is fully integrated into Windows Media Player. MGTEK dopisp is a plug-in for Windows Media Player that enables you to sync your MP3 music to your iPod directly from within Windows Media Player. There is no external user interface, no fluff, not even a program icon to click on. Just connect your iPod, fire up Windows Media Player, start moving your music to your iPod, and forget that the two once didn't play together."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/dht/auto/1225925279.usr10.jpg" border="1" /></p><p>If Jason's recent post about MediaMonkey supporting direct iPod syncing wasn't quite what you were looking for, how about a plug-in for Windows Media Player to allow you to sync directly from there?&nbsp; I'm assuming, whatever voodoo either product is using to accomplish this, could be shut down by an update from Apple; but then again, if you stop using iTunes, not like you are going to get the update anyway.</p>

a) Does this belong on DHT, AT, or both? ;) (I assume the AT news feed will be separate though, so no worries.)

b) Why would Apple shut it down? They've never shut down any 3rd-party sync solutions, ever. Heck, they used to bundle MusicMatch Jukebox with iPods before iTunes for Windows came out. The file structure and formats are open on the iPod, you can just go into IPOD_CONTROL (or whatever it's called) and manipulate away.

If it cracked FairPlay DRM, that'd be a reason, otherwise expect indifference.

Both, IMO.

b) Why would Apple shut it down?

Whether purposely or not, they already did... :( This may be unrelated, but I saw where they were disabling direct connect on the new MacBooks as a way of preventing jailbreaking. They have a way of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Supported Devices

* All current Apple iPod and
Apple iPhone except
iPhone/iPod touch with firmware 2.0

I have an iPhone, but the only reason I'd use iTunes is to get my calendar information between Outlook and my phone. I don't use the phone as a music device because a) none of my headphones fit, b) most of my music is in wma, and c) I can't stand iTunes for managing music. What I need is a program that connects to my phone (through USB) and syncs it with Outlook. That, I'd pay for.
