<p>Well, it turns out <a href="http://www.zunethoughts.com/news/show/90621/zune-marketplace-freebie-dem-boyz-go-by-planet-asia-f-l-o.html" target="_blank">"Dem Boyz Go"</a> isn't the only freebie. We've discovered ten other tracks on the Zune Marketplace Top Songs chart that are also available for free - and being top songs, suffice it to say, most of the artists need no introduction. This is either a very generous offering or some colossal mistake. Get 'em while they're hot!</p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/zt/auto/1221591647.usr2.jpg" border="1" /></p><ul><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=4d590e00-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"Fallin'"</a> by Alicia Keys</li><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=6f680700-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"Beautiful"</a> by Christina Aguilera</li><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=5bf7f000-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"Vanorapa"</a> by Chiwonisho</li><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=bdddf100-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"Heroes of Our Time"</a> by Dragonforce</li><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=07a1cc00-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"Yesterday"</a> by Leona Lewis</li><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=c1be0400-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"So Fresh, So Clean"</a> by OutKast</li><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=d71bd700-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"Me Cai (Da Cruz Jazz Ragga Mix)"</a> by Pacifika</li><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=95d6ee00-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"Pervert Pop Song"</a> by Plastilina Mosh (last week's Zune Marketplace Freebie)</li><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=9dc06900-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"Hips Don't Lie"</a> by Shakira</li><li><a href="http://social.zune.net/my/ContentRedirect.ashx?mtype=Album&amp;mid=ef140200-0100-11db-89ca-0019b92a3933" target="_blank">"Jazz (We've Got)"</a> by A Tribe Called Quest<br /></li></ul>

I wasn't surprised when I couldn't download the tracks logged in with my real Zune Social account (the one linked to my Passport account), but I was surprised when I logged into my fake USA Passport and couldn't download the first three tracks (Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Chiwonisho). I kept getting a C00D12F5 error complaining about "media usage rights". *#&$(#$#ing DRM!

I was able to download the "Dragonforce" track though because it's an MP3.

A possible fix, albeit convoluted: Error message when you try to sign in to the Zune Marketplace or when you try to play content from the Zune Marketplace (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929642)

If that fails, try this DRM reset tool: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?linkid=105000

FWIW, I downloaded them without a hitch.

Thanks, I appreciate the link, but on second thought I don't want to pollute my music collection with this DRM'd stuff, because when I want to listen to it I'd have to sign out of my Canadian Passport, sign in with my USA Passport to authenticate, then log back into my Canadian Passport if I want the plays to be tracked. Pretty ugly all around...so I guess I'll just continue to say no to DRM.

So much free content, this sounds great. Is this typical or are they promotional for the fall update?Any idea when the marketplace will be coming to Canada? I was hoping it would happen with the fall update as I thought I had originally heard it was coming this fall. I picked up a 120 at walmart last week for 199 and am trying to decide if I should return it. It does not look like much of the new functinality with the release will be of any use to Canadians without access to the marketplace.

I am not sure if this has also been mentioned on the site, but if you are also looking for additional free stuff, the Zune MarketPlace has some TV show episodes for free. Episodes of:

The Office
Heroes
30 Rock
Life
Monk
Psych
In Plain Site
Battlestar Galactica
Eureka
Lipstick Jungle
Top Design
Most are the first episodes of the last season.

As for Jason's comment about DRM content, I keep the Zune MarketPlace downloads (as well as any other DRM material) in separate directories from the rest of my content, so I can easily tell what has DRM and what doesn't. Also, it makes it easy when setting up programs to search for content. If I don't want to include DRM, I leave out those directories. Most of the time I try to stay away from DRM content, but I don't have a problem with DRM when it is free. Again, free is free. :D

Yup, I'm doing the same thing as well - it definitely helps keeping the real content away from the stuff-that-might-break-if-the-DRM-server-turns-off content. :)

So much free stuff is right...is there a compiled list on Marketplace? Or is this all just spread around? List of the music...I was already able to dig through all the videos. Haha...and they're still downloading too.

This much free content is certainly out of the ordinary; I suspect it's simply a 3.0 promotion.

Every other week, there are 1-2 free songs available. We post links to them on the front-page of Zune Thoughts, so keep an eye out. :)

There are ads on Zune.net and the Marketplace, but they're slow to update. As mentioned in my previous post, keep an eye on the Zune Thoughts front-page and those freebies will be yours. :D
