You bet! This time we've got the brother-in-law to the Motorola Alexander - no QWERTY keyboard - with a pretty decent spec sheet. This one is codenamed Atila, and if you haven't caught on to Motorola's code names for Windows Mobile devices, they are all named after great conquerors; Alexander, Atila, Ghenghis, etc. The Atila is actually the first Motorola device that will have tri-band UMTS/HSDPA. Finally, right? We're not sure on a release date, but here's an introduction of the specs, followed by the actual spec sheet...</em>"</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/spt/auto/1219542076.usr251.jpg" border="0" /></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>BoyGeniusReport has the goods on a possible upcoming Motorola phone.&nbsp; Unlike an earlier <a href="http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/08/05/motorola-alexander-live-shot/" target="_blank">leaked report from BGR</a> on the Motorola Alexander, there's no sliding QWERTY keyboard hiding underneath.&nbsp; Here are the specs from BGR:</p><blockquote><p>&bull; Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE<br />&bull; Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850MHz/1900MHz/2100MHz)<br />&bull; 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 1.8Mbps HSUPA<br />&bull; 1130mAh battery<br />&bull; 2.8&Prime; QVGA 240 x 320 screen<br />&bull; Wi-Fi b/g<br />&bull; Qualcomm 7201A chipset<br />&bull; Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional</p></blockquote><p>Ed will be pleased to note there's no Bluetooth listed. <img src="tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />&nbsp; Still, it's a nice combo of acronymns.&nbsp; No release date yet.</p>

shame it looks like a rectal capsule. i was just going to say it looks like ass, but that would be denying the device its comedic value.

It has a nice look but hey- no Bluetooth- that must be an error in the specs. Also, why no VGA display or something spiffy to make it stand out. It seems Moto has seen that nice looking touch screen phones can sell with WinMo (see the Diamond), but they missed the part where it is the combination of style and specs that really make a winner.

Why do most manufacturers insist on lowrez and small screens? Since I have used a VGA Dell Axim for the past four years, going to a smaller and lower rez smartphone just seems a step backwards.

Where are all the 3 to 3.5 inch vga screens. Have they remained too expensive or just not considred important by manufacturers?

I would think basic phone users want the screen fairly small, but business professionals, gamers, and move viewers would love a larger touch screen. In fact, as my eyes get older, a 3.7 inch Axim screen is as small as I would lke to get. So Dell, make an Axim phone with similar screen and graphic chip and I will be the first to purchase!

big screens make devices bigger, and the manufacturers think (or know) that small devices sell better. the iphone gets away with it because it is almost only screen, because it doesn't have/need hardware buttons. I'd never buy a device without hardware buttons. not even the omnia.
