After getting increasingly frustrated with my old Lumix FX9, I splashed out today and bought a Canon Powershot G9. So far I'm pretty impressed, but it has a level of technology that's proving pretty baffling to someone who's new to more advanced digital cameras.
Is there a good "getting started" guide that discusses these features better than the manual and explains what each one does and how it affects the photos? I could probably get a fairly good understanding simply by playing with the camera for the next few weeks, but I still won't understand what they're actually doing.
I bought ACDSee Pro 2 tonight as well (it's on a 50% special offer at the moment). Since it can handle RAW images, should I shoot in this format or leave it set to JPG? The only thing that's a little concerning at the moment is that pictures don't seem quite as sharp as I'd like (in JPG and RAW). Is this endemic to Canon cameras? My brother has the EOS 40D and his photos are pin-sharp.
Cheers,
Dave.
