MediaMonkey remains my favourite tool for metadata manipulation - it's a fantastic way to correct metadata in batch mode, embed album art, and keep things organized. I use the Zune software to listen to music, but MediaMonkey to keep my collection organized. You can <a href="http://mediamonkey.com/download/" target="_blank">use MediaMonkey for free</a>, and if you like it they have a commercial version for $19.95 that offers some additional great features. I purchased it because it saved me so many headaches a few years ago when I was trying to clean up my music collection - I was surprised how many metadata problems I had despite having a library full of music ripped from my own CDs.

I will definitely be upgrading to this version. I've come to rely on MediaMonkey for keeping my music organized and tagged.

I just recently upgraded from the free to the licensed version just to support their great work on the software.

I did run in something though. It doesn't appear the MediaMonkey support non-DRM AAC. Did I miss something? Does version 3.0 add this support?

Has anybody ever noticed how the pink "cloud" on the bottom of Zune software works like a mini visualization when music is playing. I was sitting back on my chair just looking around my room and then looked at my screen to see it move. At first I thought my eyes were simply trying to adjust or my glasses were causing some weird distortion, but no, I looked closer and noticed that it moves to the music.

I just like how the Zune team puts all these little extras and doesn't really talk about them and leaves them for us to discover. Much better strategy than creating hype and under-delivering.

Great to hear! I did the same. I think it's important to support the development of great software.

Looks like it can play AAC files, but it's a bit of an ugly kludge:

I'm not seeing that - how did you get the "pink cloud" to appear? I watched for it in the normal playback mode, and in the "Now Playing" mode and I didn't see it in either place.

It has nothing to do with MediaMonkey, but seeing that there was no post titled "Zune Software 'Pink Cloud'" and figured nobody would really post about it any time soon, I figured to post a comment in a recent article.

But anyway, I figured out what setting affects its visibility. Under Settings > Software > Display > Screen Animation, make sure "Show screen animation" is checked. Voila! Enjoy.

Oh yeah...I was really active in forums but have just recently almost stopped altogether for some reason, I think I burned out. I now just comment on news articles and stuff, and I must have just done it here as instinct. Sorry, I don't know how I had forgotten about threads.

I totally agree, they should make it a little more sensitive to the music and a lot more visual, to the point we can actually notice it without having to really get close to the screen. Maybe now that they're realizing why people are barely pointing it out, it'll be something they can tweak next time.

I love Mediamonkey and been using it for years, it gives me so much control over my music. Really recommend anyone who has a large music collection to try it. As of late I've been using Rhapsody with Mediamonkey but have been considering getting a Zune and getting the Zunepass. Does anyone know if Mediamonkey will play my downloads from the Zunepass or is playback only restricted to the Zune Software? This has been bugging me for weeks.

MediaMonkey will play back DRM'd Rhapsody content? Or are you downloading DRM-free MP3s? I find it hard to believe that MediaMonkey supports DRM'd content, so I doubt it would work with the Zune Pass content...but I could be wrong on that, I haven't tried it. :o

Yes I"m positive that Mediamonkey supports DRM music from both Rhapsdoy and Napster. Winamp also supports Rhapsody DRM, I'm not sure what other music players out there do this as well but these are the two I use the most. This is one of the reason I decided to get Rhasody. From what I've gathered so far online I don't think Zunepass downloaded DRM will play on Mediamonkey because of the type of DRM. I wish they'd offer a free trial for the zunepass so I could see for myself, think I'd have to have a Zune player to get a fee trial.
