Windows Live for Windows Mobile lets Windows Mobile users sync their email from Windows Live Hotmail as well as their Windows Live Contacts. Just download the .cab file for the version of Windows Mobile you are running (Standard or Professional). Windows Live for Windows Mobile works on phones running both Windows Mobile and Windows Mobile 6 (and 6.1)."<br /><br /></em><img border="0" src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/spt/auto/1210831667.usr8.jpg" alt="" /><br /><br />It seems like just yesterday we were reporting on the Beta version being available for download, huh? Well Windows Live is now available and ready for download in final version form. While Windows Live isn't exactly on my must have software list - mostly due to the incredibly annoying integration of my Exchange contacts with my Windows Live contacts - the program did serve to be pretty handy the few times that I did use it. According to Neowin and Windows Live Messenger has been removed as to not interfere with revenue that the carrier would normally make off SMS... which I find utterly ridiculous because the same argument could be made for email and Microsoft chose to leave Hotmail integration in with this software package. Oh well. You can download the latest version of Windows Live for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PCs <a href="http://wl.windowsmobile.com/">here</a>.

I have WindowsLive [Mail + Messenger] on my HTC TyTN II and it's ver 10.6.0031.2600. If I download and install this no IM version will I loose my Messenger functionality or will the CAB just overwrite the Mail part? Any idea what version this is?

If you install this version over your device's existing version, you lose Messenger. Sad, but true. :(
Also, this version is v10.6.0040.2801.

I miss the good old days when messenger didn't try to hi-jack your contacts, then they made messenger/mail sync with your device which doesn't work all the time. now they take out messenger and leave contact sync (most of the times this messes up my contacts and I re-sync using outlook/async after delete my live sign-in) and mail (which you can get via web anyway). I don't think I'll be using my hotmail or messenger anytime soon. I'll stick with gmail and im+ for my mail/messaging needs.

You can disable contact syncing. I used to have a lot of problems with missing/duplicate contacts back when Windows Live forced you to sync contacts just to use Messenger, so I play it safe now by just disabling that option.

I actually really liked the Messenger client on Windows Mobile. Is there no standalone version of it now either?:(

I dont use IM on my Mogul, but I dont wanna loose the function. To me the IM is slower than Threaded Text messaging. Maybe they shouldnt have wasted time creating an Threaded Text program for 6.1 and just improved the IM function on the devices and used that as a Text program.

Anyone else have problems with their device after installing the new version of Windows Live?
At first everything seemed fine but then a few minutes later I found my device so slow it was unusable.
Memory was fine...
Couldn't find a process that was taking over the CPU either...
I ended up hard-resetting my device.

It totally hosed my Tilt, and I had to hard reset. I recommend against putting this software on a device.

I installed Windows Live (the beta, I guess since it was about a month or so ago) on my Touch just to see what it was and what it did. It made unexpected changes to the phone and then wouldn't let me remove the things it added. In my book that's a virus, not a program. Anyway, I installed a new firmware version on the phone, which wiped everything, so I finally got rid of it. No way will I ever install this again!

If you have any of the Windows Live Today plug-ins enabled, you can try disabling them. That has improved performance for some people in the past.

I bricked my Samsung i780. Worst still the hard reset didnt work, so luckily I was able to download the bits with instructions at XDA Dev and reflash my i780.
But because I thought it was another piece of software, I re-installed this, and bricked my i780 again.
Very angry the MS could allow this out of the stable. Wasted a lot of time re-installing software/reg codes etc..
Any I had no today plugins enabled.

I'm so f'n sick of microsoft bowing to these ******* carriers. You don't see Apple doing this. They told ATT the here and what for.
Microsoft, put Messenger back in the CAB, it is VASTLY superior over the junk the carriers push.
WM6 on a Treo 750 doesn't even HAVE a carrier IM application....so what am I supposed to do?

I thought I found the solution that I have been looking for since I like the new, less spam, better interfaced hotmail and HATE accessing it on the web on my phone! Coincidentally, I have had some issues with my 6800 but had to hard reset shortly after installing this too! Link on website now shows that they will not allow downloads until 06/02/08.

Right. The one reason to install Windows Live on my phone just disappeared. *sigh* MS is a bit too carrier friendly.
