Alright, so this isn't about Pocket Pcs, but you guys will know. I have a Nokia 6300, and it has a handsfree jack. The included headset also enables FM radio on the device.

I have a 2gb MicroSD card (Thanks Pricegrabber!) and the phone has a great mp3 player. I tried a couple headphone adapters at RadioShack. One didn't work at all, one made the phone react, saying "Headset detected, use microphone?"

I hit no and put on the headphones, and there was only sound from the left side. I couln't get it to askme the mic question again.

I posted this on my axim, does that count?

So if I understand you correctly, you want to use just regular headphones on your phone with an adapter? Or do you want to use a stereo headset without an adapter?

I'm not quite sure what your problem is or isn't? Some headsets aren't designed for stereo use, some are.

I want to use standard headphones for mp3 playback.

And you tried a 2.5 to 3.5mm at Radio Shack and it did not work?

Yup. Nothing happened when I plugged one in, and the second only had audio in one ear, but the phone did detect it.

search for your phone

The problem is the phone really has a 4 conductor jack, mic, left, right, common. If you want to plug as 3 conductor stereo (left, right, common)headphone into it you need an adapter wired correctly for YOUR phone.

Wired wrong, or built wrong, you get mic, left OR right, and common, usually. RS probably can't help you as they have a generic 3 conductor to 3 conductor, 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter. The 2.5mm plug rings are hitting the wrong things in your 4 conductor 2.5mm phone jack.

If you search, you can probably even find an adapter that has a 4 conductor 2.5mm plug, with a short cable ending in a unit that contains a mic and a 3.5MM stereo (3 conductor) jack into which you plug your headphones. With that you could listen to stereo and answer calls when they come in. Something like this

Not that I am implying that will work on your phone, but the style is what you might want. Note also the 4 conductor plug. I'm sure one of the ones at Seidio would work, but don't know which one. All I can say is there are differences...my adapters for my SMT5600 and MPX220 are NOT interchangeable.

Note Nokia's own stereo headset for your phone http://europe.nokia.com/link?cid=EDITORIAL_182778 , four conductor.
